With this package you can not only answer that question immediately for any WatchList and any value of N you like, but also very quickly manipulate a dashboard of controls that let's you configure and test a strategy, with instant visualization of your strategy setup, and very rapid testing of the setup's historical performance across your WatchList.

How It Works

For the chosen WatchList (e.g. Nasdaq 100 components in the picture above), the 'Pct of List > MA' indicator graphs the percentage of stocks on the list which are above your chosen moving average. The desired length of the MA is set with the 'MovAvg Master' slider. By simply moving this slider you can adjust for shorter or longer MA length and see visually how often market-revealing extremes are produced.

This alone is a powerful visualization technique that provide strong insight into market overbought/oversold conditions, but visualization is only the beginning.

All of the controls you see are wired into a strategy that can very rapidly test the results of trading the stocks in your WatchList, providing you with both individual and collective results.

As provided, the strategy goes long when the 'Pct of List > MA' falls below your 'Entry MA Pct' knob setting (indicating an oversold condition). Whether you are using a raw value or a smoothed one is controlled by the 'Smoothing' knob.

The strategy exits on 3 different conditions - a target, a trailing stop, or subsequent strength in the 'Pct of List > MA' indicator. These are controlled by the 'Profit Tgt Pct', 'Trail Stop Pct' and 'Exit MA Pct' knobs respectively.
